IPL – Intense Pulsed Light

What is IPL?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a cosmetic skin treatment that works in a similar way to laser treatment. It is a non-invasive, non-ablative treatment and therefore, little to no recovery time is needed. The IPL treatment uses multiple wavelengths that emit via strong pulses of light that convert into heat energy that is absorbed by pigment and blood vessels, stimulating collagen synthesis from superficial to deep skin layer.

The treatment can be used on any part of the skin including the face, neck, chest, arms, and legs, areas that are typically exposed and damaged by long term sun exposure. The multiple long term benefits of IPL treatment include anti-aging – improvement of skin texture, fine winkles, even skin tone via lightening brown spots such as sun spots, liver spots, freckles, and redness due to photodamage, superficial blood vessels or acne marks. While results may be visible after one session, a series of 3-5 treatments is typically recommended for optimal results. With minimal to no downtime, IPL can be a desirable treatment as a maintenance for anti-aging and rejuvenating a healthier skin appearance.

Intense pulsed light Lasers (IPL) are light-based devices that target different cells to reduce or eliminate pigmentation, redness, wrinkles and textural abnormalities. Each wavelength used is unique to a specific problem. The laser relies on pulsed-dye energy to pick up the brown, red and pink pigment in brown spots, broken capillaries, scars, redness and ruddy complexions to make the skin more uniform in color.
